In a new policy, any accounts that haven't seen "activity" in two years — such as reading or sending an email — will be permanently deleted to help prevent spam and identity theft. Google will also remove content users store in Google Workspace, YouTube and Google Photos. In addition to boosting security for users, the move will also help Google cut costs by freeing up storage, notes Ars Technica.

Google said it will send “multiple notifications” to users in the months before deleting an account. Twitter chief executive Elon Musk also recently announced plans to purge dormant accounts at the social media company.
