By Saundra Latham, Editor at LinkedIn News — Call it Dara Khosrowshahi’s “Undercover Boss” moment. The Uber CEO told The Wall Street Journal he recently spent months as “Dave K,” ferrying passengers around San Francisco in a secondhand Tesla — an effort dubbed “Project Boomerang” at the ride-share firm. The aim? To understand the Uber driver experience firsthand after post-lockdown labor shortages left the traditionally passenger-first company at a crossroads. Improvements that sprang from the effort include a streamlined sign-up process, more robust safety features, and more transparency for drivers about destinations before they accept a trip. Incoming Lyft CEO David Risher also spent a bit of time driving the Uber rival’s passengers, an experience he posted about on LinkedIn. His first official day on the job is April 17, CNBC reports.
