While Lebanese political parties are fighting over the electricity bill, the future of Zouk’s power plants remains unknown despite the health risks and pollution that the smoke stacks are causing. To make things even worse, Al Jomhouria newspaper released a report few months ago that there is a plan to build a third smoke stack to increase electricity production.
This plan was totally rejected by Sheikh Farid Haykal el Khazen who called in an open letter to the government to work on demolishing those power plants instead of increasing their production as they are polluting the Jounieh bay and causing cancers and diseases to spread.
