BEIRUT: The Lebanese government must create a level playing field for all startups in order to be able to create more job opportunities and cut down the unemployment rate, a senior economist said Tuesday. “Some of the policies that are in place in Lebanon are undermining healthy competition by benefitting only a few firms while preventing others from growing or even entering the market,” Marc Schiffbauer, a senior economist at the World Bank, told The Daily Star on the sidelines of a debate organized by the American University of Beirut.
