BEIRUT: Lebanese leaders condemned in the strongest terms Friday a suicide bombing which targeted a Shiite mosque in Saudi Arabia, saying it aimed at sparking strife in the stable kingdom.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam said the attack reflected a “black criminal mind” that has nothing to do with Islam and which aimed at stirring strife in Saudi Arabia.

“We are confident that the Saudi leadership will deal with this deplorable crime with wisdom and firmness as it has been known to do,” Salam said in a statement.

Twenty-one worshippers were killed Friday in a suicide bombing which hit a packed Shiite mosque in the village of Al-Qadeeh near the city of Al-Qatif in eastern Saudi Arabia.
