BEIRUT: A plume of black smoke covered a Sin al-Fil neighborhood Thursday after a fire erupted in one of the area’s local markets, a security source told The Daily Star.

The fire erupted in Souq al-Khoudar, facing Souk al-Ahad- a giant, open-air weekly flea market is located under the flyover by Jisr al-Wati.

Civil Defense Forces have arrived to the scene to extinguish the blaze. No casualties have been reported.

A security source said that the fire erupted in a large arena used for the storage of plastic containers.

The 500 meters of land are located southeast of Souq Al-Khoudar.

It remains unclear, however, how the containers caught fire.
