BEIRUT: Prime Minister Tammam Salam Thursday appeared unmoved by street protests called for by Free Patriotic Movement leader Aoun to coincide with a Cabinet session Thursday.

"The Cabinet meeting will take place today as scheduled to [discuss] the agenda as is,” Salam said in remarks published Thursday by local daily As-Saifr.

Salam said the “primary task of the government is managing the affairs of the people and the country, not manage the political crisis.”

“The Cabinet is not the place to discuss or resolve political conflicts,” he added. “I will do all I can to prevent [political] paralysis.”

Aoun has been enraged after the government last week ignored his demand to prioritize the issue of key security and military appointments.
