BEIRUT: A Lebanese Army checkpoint near the southern city of Sidon came under attack Wednesday by unknown stone-throwing assailants from the Mieh Mieh Palestinian refugee camp.
No casualties were reported from the early morning attack, which was the first of its kind since 45 members of a Palestinian security force deployed to the camp last week.
Palestinian forces launched an investigation into the incident.
A joint Palestinian elite force was deployed to Mieh Mieh last Tuesday in an attempt to maintain stability in the volatile area following successes in the nearby Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp.
