Maronite institutions warned on Wednesday lawmakers against the failure to elect a new president and the consequent vacuum in the country’s top post. They said: “Obstructing presidential elections sessions violates the constitution and the national pact.” They made their statement after holding a meeting chaired by Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi at Bkirki. Moreover, they cautioned that vacuum in the presidency will “paralyze constitutional institutions.” The Maronite institutions announced they will keep their meetings open to determine their positions on the presidential elections.
